SECRET LOVE LETTER

Secret Love Letter is an ongoing series by Tika that began with a quiet observation: love speaks in different languages. Growing up in a culture where "I love you" was rarely spoken aloud, Tika experienced love as something felt rather than said. Her husband, by contrast, offers those words freely and witnessing the profound effect of that simple expression became a turning point. This series is her practice in learning to say "I love you": to others, to herself, and to the universe.

Working in mixed media acrylic, oil, pastel, crayon, and collage. Each piece becomes a love letter in its own right. Layers build upon one another, sometimes soft, sometimes bold, mirroring the vulnerability and courage it takes to speak what the heart holds. What makes this series so compelling is its honesty. It does not pretend that saying "I love you" comes easily. Instead, it traces the journey of learning to say it anyway, offering a visual language of love that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Whooping Cranes

Two whooping cranes alight in a lush, colorful garden, marking the commencement of our shared journey. The canvas is richly textured with a base layer of romantic-era sheet music and poetry, over which my husband inscribed intimate love letters, his handwriting becoming a hidden foundation of devotion. As symbols of partnership, fidelity, and the rare beauty of commitment, the cranes embody the delicate process of learning a new environment and a new love in symbiotic harmony. This painting captures the courageous first step of nurturing a life together, discovering the habits of each other and the garden they will grow.

Nesting Flamingo

Radiating warmth and vitality, this piece features two flamingos poised gracefully as they prepare to nest. Set against a lake, the birds are rendered with a luminous palette that speaks to the vibrancy of a deeply rooted connection. Beneath the paint, my husband's handwritten love letters intertwine with fragments of romantic poetry and music sheet, visible whispers of devotion that ground the composition.

Sunset Swallows

Two swallows dance in joyful flight across a sweeping sunset meadow in this evocative painting. The sky is alive with the warm, hopeful colors of a setting sun, while the field below blooms with the flowers of a life lovingly cultivated. Swallows, enduring symbols of loyalty, freedom, and the triumphant return of happiness, perfectly capture the spirit of growing old together with grace and joy.

Nuzzling

In Nuzzling, two parakeets perch close together on a sturdy branch, their bodies nestled against one another as their faces gently press together in a tender exchange. For birds, nuzzling is a quiet but profound act of bonding—a gesture of trust, comfort, and affection shared between mates or lifelong companions. It is a language without words, spoken through warmth and proximity.
