This painting began as a gift box I made for my friend's baby shower. In many cultures, there is a story about a stork carrying babies to their families. But I have always felt that those stories overlook the weight of what mothers carry, nine months between life and death, holding hope through uncertainty. So rather than carrying the baby, I chose to have the stork bear a lucky star. A symbol of hope, protection, and the belief that every new life arrives with purpose.
Surrounding this moment is Batik Truntum, a traditional Javanese star pattern that fills the sky. It represents love that grows softly, steadily, and without end. Amid a complicated and often heavy world, this image speaks softly of beginnings and the light they bring.
This is a mixed media painting. I used oil, oil pastel, and acrylic.
